VICT boosts Wallaby service for improved Australia trade

VICTORIA International Container Terminal (VICT), a fully automated terminal in Melbourne operated by International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), welcomed the enhanced Wallaby service from the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) last September.

This service offers faster, direct routes between Australia, New Zealand and North Asia, improving reliability and efficiency for global shippers.

MSC's revised port rotation now includes key ports in New Zealand, such as Bluff, and direct links to major hubs in Hong Kong, Yantian, Shanghai and Ningbo. The full port rotation is as follows: Hong Kong–Yantian–Xiamen–Shanghai–Ningbo–Sydney–Melbourne–Auckland–Bluff–Lyttelton–Wellington–Napier–Tauranga–Melbourne–Brisbane–Hong Kong.

«We are honored that MSC has chosen VICT as a key port of call for the Wallaby service,» said VICT CEO Bruno Porchietto.

He emphasized that this partnership demonstrates VICT's growing capacity.

«This service highlights our capability to handle growing volume and further solidifies VICT's position as a leading container terminal in Australia,» he added.

The Wallaby service's inaugural call was marked by the arrival of MSC Eleni, which returned to VICT on October 13 during its northbound trip.

The service is set to run on a 10-week rotation with 10 vessels ranging from 2,700 to 5,000 TEU capacity, offering greater flexibility and frequency to traders across the Asia-Pacific region.

The new service underscores VICT's commitment to providing world-class services. VICT's advanced automation capabilities allow it to handle increased volume while maintaining safety and transparency in operations.

The enhanced service expands trade opportunities between Australia, New Zealand and North Asia, providing more dependable transport options for exporters and importers. It also supports stronger supply chain connections, benefiting industries dependent on timely cargo movement.
