Voter registrants at 5.3M

WITH just over a month before the end of the voter registration period for the May 2025 national and local polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said there is now an equal number of applicants and deactivated voters.

Based on the data provided by the poll body, there are now 5,372,424 applications for voter registration from February 12 to August 18.

Still having the most number of applicants is Calabarzon with 901,562; followed by the National Capital Region with 712,458; and Central Luzon with 618,106.

Having the lowest number of registrants, on the other hand, is the Cordillera Administrative Region with 74,874.

Meanwhile, the Comelec said the number of deactivated voters is at 5,388,421 as of July 15.

A large majority of the deactivated, or 5,383,176 voters, are those who failed to vote in two successive preceding regular elections as shown by their voting records.

Also deactivated were 3,730 persons who were excluded by court orders, and 1,004 who failed to validate their registration.

Comelec chairman George Garcia has previously appealed to deactivated voters to have their registration records reactivated.

The ongoing voter registration activities are open for registration, transfer, change/corrections of entries in the registration records, reactivation of registration records, inclusion of registration records and reinstatement of name in the list of voters, and transfer of registration records from foreign service post to local.

The voter registration period is set to end on September 30.
