Yulo wins all-around gold in Asian gymnastics tilt

MANILA, Philippines -- Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo bagged the men’s individual all-around gold at the 2024 Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Uzbekistan late Thursday night.

With the Paris Olympics a couple of months away, Yulo captured the breakthrough individual all-around gold after finishing second in the past two editions of the tourney.

On Thursday, he finished with a total score of 84.931 for floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, parallel bars, horizontal bar and vault to secure the gold.

Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi came in second place with 84.632.

Uzbekistan’s Asimov Abdulla took home the bronze medal with a score of 82.431, as he also stamped a ticket to Paris with the Olympic quota.

Last month, Yulo also snagged the gold medal in the parallel bars event of the 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Doha and the silver in men’s vault.

He will also see action in the finals of apparatus.

The Philippine senior team participating in the event is coached by Aldrin Castaneda and Reyland Capellan. The team is composed of Yulo, Juancho Besana, John Cruz, Justin de Leon and Jhon Santillan.

Yulo’s younger brother Karl Eldrew will compete in the junior category, the qualifications of which will start on Friday.
