1986 Bagtik, 1997 Ronins log back-to-back victories | The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The 1986 Bagtik team and the 1997 Ronins cruised to 2-0 starts in the University of San Carlos-North Alumni Basketball  Club (USC-NABC) “Lance Dance”:Cong. Bingo “Bagtik” Matugas Cup at the USC -North Campus gym along General Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City.

Arturo Pepito Mata, Lou Regidor, and Bingo Matugas powered the 1986 Bagtik to a 100-79 rout of the 1988 Barakos.

Marata topsored with 27 points, while Regidor and Matugas banged in 25 and 22 markers, respectively, as 1986 Bagtik stayed unbeaten in two starts.

Ditto with the 1997 Ronins, which posted back-to-back victories against the 1998 Sipat, 63-60, and the 1996 Chubbies, 68-58, behind the leadership of Jake Saturinas who produced a total of 40 points in those games.

On the other hand, Ian Jayme nailed 10 points as the 1995 Pirates silenced the 1994 Bulldogs, 52-39, Anthony Romaguera fired 26 points as the 2011 Sharks tamed the 2012 Dragons, 97-69, while Dolan Adlawan dropped 27 points to lead the 2013 Reapers to a 74-65 drubbing of the 2014 Emperors.

No to be outdone, Kenneth Guardiario rifled 23 points as the 2015 Assassins  fended off the 2015 Trojans, 79-75, Jade Ylanan dished out 20 points to spearhead the 1993 Dragons to a 71-50 thrashing of the 1991 Bai, while Joseph Canada scattered 17 points as the 2000 Millennium Bugs edged past the 1999 Barracudas, 77-72.

In the other results, Carlo Campos finished with 17 points as the 2001 Dos Mil Uno overcame the 2002 Goats, 72-68, while Yoram Canama unloaded 18 points as the 2007 Seven survived the 2006 Fury, 69-67. — (FREEMAN)
