The blaze started engulfing houses at the corner of Capulong and Lacson streets at around 9:49 p.m. and reached fifth alarm at past 11 p.m., according to a report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

At least 50 fire trucks, 19 from the BFP and 31 from volunteer groups, helped put out the fire at around 2:07 a.m. yesterday.

Fire Officer 1 Philip Chua, 25, sustained a laceration on his right palm while Julieta Rodemo, 75, a person with disability, suffered a burn on her right foot.

The BFP reported that the fire destroyed property worth P1.5 million. It also left around 300 families homeless. The displaced residents were reported to be  staying on the sidewalks of Capulong street and at the covered court of Barangay 95.
