2 injured in Makati elevator accident

MANILA, Philippines — Two people suffered injuries when an elevator malfunctioned in a commercial building in Makati City yesterday.

Mark Jonathan Caoili, 32, sustained a deep laceration and swelling on the forehead while Revira Ricarding Jose, 42, complained of pain in his upper back, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported. The two were brought to a hospital for treatment.

According to SPO3 Glenn Tangcangco, the BFP received a report on what was described as an elevator trap incident in Barangay Bel-Air at around 9:48 a.m.

Upon arriving in the area, responders found that the victims were not trapped but were severely injured from an elevator that malfunctioned, Tangcangco told The STAR.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Caoli and Jose, both employees in the building, were unloading boxes of delivered goods when the incident happened.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the malfunction.

The elevator remains closed to the public while the investigation is underway.
