Berberabe, Clarin also apply Gilas women success to NU in UAAP

MANILA, Philippines — Stefanie Berberabe and Camille Clarin continued to gel on the court even as they took their talents from the Gilas women to the NU Lady Bulldogs in the UAAP.

Though new teammates in college, Berberabe and Clarin have extensive history in the international team.

Now as the Lady Bulldogs welcomed Berberabe to their den for a one-and-done campaign, the guards are taking advantage of their chemistry from Gilas to translate to the college game.

“I really know [Camille’s] strengths and Angel [Surada’s] strengths, so it was pretty smooth to just find her,” Berberabe said after their 91-53 rout of La Salle.

“[Camille] moves well off-ball, on-ball. And, I mean I think Angel and [Camille] elevate their game like CC’s driving more to the basket, making layups, and shooting from the outside. So I think playing with them through Gilas has helped me for sure elevate their game,” she added.

In just her second UAAP game, Berberabe took charge of playmaking for the reigning champions, finishing with seven dimes, to go along with three rebounds, two steals and two points.

For Clarin, she and Berberabe are simply just giving the same energy to NU that they do for flag and country.

“Yeah, I think just bringing that same intensity that you experience in the international stage to the UAAP, I think overall, like you see, it’s elevated the game for everybody not just necessarily NU,” said the veteran guard.

“I think it’s great to see that if we bring our experience, the league also lifts itself up and it’s great that we get to play with each other because we know each other’s strengths and we play off of each other well.”

Clarin was one of the bigger benefactors of Berberabe’s playmaking as she top-scored for the Lady Bulldogs against La Salle with 19 points.

The Lady Bulldogs face the hapless UE Lady Warriors next on Wednesday, October 18.
