Blazers top Bombers in intense duel
MANILA, Philippines — College of St. Benilde kept its cool amid a maelstrom of tension as it outlasted fierce rival Jose Rizal U, 93-85, in overtime yesterday in NCAA Season 99 at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.
The Blazers were an island of calm in an ocean of storm as they took the win in the game replete with hard, technical and unsportsmanlike fouls.
The game didn’t end up the way it did 10 months ago in an infamous fracas that involved John Amores.
But there’s obviously bad blood.
In one of the longest, if not the longest, games of the season, the two teams were assessed a combined total 48 fouls, and CSB coach Charles Tiu was happy they won in the end.
In the nightcap, Mapua routed San Beda, 75-57, to snatch a share of the lead with LPU at 2-0. The Lions dropped to 1-1.
