Classes continue in Manila despite transport strike
MANILA, Philippines: Classes in public and private schools in Manila were not cancelled on Monday but some schools shifted to online learning because of the transport strike.
The Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) said 122 vehicles were deployed by the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau and Manila Police District to help commuters.
The Oplan Libreng Sakay command center is located at the Kartilya ng Katipunan, beside the Manila City Hall.
«We will monitor the affected routes and will provide assistance to stranded passengers as needed, particularly during rush hour traffic. Mayor Honey Lacuna instructed that the Oplan Libreng Sakay should not deprive public transport vehicles that will not participate in the strike from earning their income,» MPIO said.
