DAR Turns Over P7-M Tissue Culture Laboratory To Boost Iloilo Farmer’s Livelihood

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in the province of Iloilo turned over a P7 million worth of Tissue Culture Laboratory with a Greenhouse Facility at Sitio Bangkal, Brgy. Guinobatan, New Lucena, Iloilo to spike up the production of farmers in this community.

The said facility, funded under the Sustainable and Resilient (SuRe) ARC Project, will benefit 318 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).

Foreign Assisted and Special Projects Office Undersecretary Jesry T. Palmares said that through the tissue culture laboratory, the farmers can source out a variety of quality plants, fruits, and seeds, and propagate them 10 times, 100 times, or even a thousand times.

“Our farmers can get the best quality of Cacao seedlings and propagate these in the laboratory, which can be used for planting or distribution to other farmers,” he said.

Palmares added that there are few laboratories in the locality at the moment and the DAR plans to expand them to spike up the farmers’ production.

The SuRe ARC Project aims to improve the lives of ARBs and ARB households in agrarian reform communities by providing them with necessary climate-resilient farm support services and infrastructure to ensure their continued farm operations to make them productive, increase their farm incomes, and help address the country’s food security.
