DBM approves 5,000 non-teaching positions

THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the request of the Department of Education (DepEd) for the creation of 5,000 non-teaching positions for 2024.

In a statement, the DBM said this would help relieve teachers from the burden of performing administrative tasks due to the lack or absence of non-teaching personnel in schools.

The DepEd recently issued an order mandating the removal of these tasks from the workload of teachers, enabling them to focus and maximize their time on the teaching and learning process.

The 5,000 non-teaching positions are administrative officer II positions with a salary grade 11 for fiscal year 2024.

They will be deployed in various school division offices and schools in the Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen and Caraga.

“Our educators already have their plates full. By approving the creation of 5,000 non-teaching positions, we aim to relieve teachers of administrative tasks and allow them to focus on quality instruction,” Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said.

“This move will significantly benefit our educators and enhance the country’s education system,” she added.

The appropriate funding requirements for the positions shall be charged against the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund in the 2024 General Appropriations Act, while the Retirement and Life Insurance Premium is chargeable against Automatic Appropriations.
