DepEd task force eyes completing transition plan for schools in Makati-Taguig row in November
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 10) — The committee formed to handle the transition of 14 schools from Makati to Taguig is hoping to issue the guidelines on their transfer this month, an education official said Friday.
«I was told they gave themselves a deadline na within November, they will already have the finalized transition plan. So once that's there we can already implement fully and transition to Taguig,” Department of Education (DepEd) spokesperson Michael Poa told CNN Philippines’ The Source.
In August, DepEd assumed authority over 14 schools affected by the territorial row between Makati and Taguig. This move came as the schools became entangled in the dispute just weeks before the opening of school year 2023-2024.
To handle the transfer process, DepEd formed a transition committee composed of a regional director, the DepEd schools division superintendents of Taguig-Pateros and Makati, and the legal officers of both cities.
Poa said the committee is having regular meetings to fast track the transition and ensure the process will be smooth and orderly.
