DMW: Pinoy seamen in foiled pirate attack safe

SIX Filipino seafarers were unharmed during a foiled pirate attack at the Arabian Sea last Friday, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the six Filipinos were crew members of the Liberian-flagged MV Lila Norfolk which he said headed “for a safe port of call” after the incident.

“Six Filipino seafarers on board the ship, Lila Norfolk, are safe and without injuries after a suspected piracy attack in the Arabian Sea,” Cacdac said in a social media post on late Saturday night.

He also said the families of the Filipino seafarers have been notified of the incident.

Over the weekend, reports came out that the MV Lila Norfolk faced an attempted hijacking by unknown men while it was sailing in the North Arabian Sea.

MV Lila Norfolk was reportedly carrying 21 crew members, including the five Filipino seafarers. – Gerard Naval
