DMW sees an increase in job opportunities in Japan, South Korea, Canada

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 26) — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) sees an increase in job opportunities for Filipinos in Japan, South Korea, and in the different provinces of Canada.

Canada's Saskatchewan province is actively recruiting Filipino workers, especially healthcare professionals.

In an interview with reporters on Tuesday, DMW Undersecretary Patricia Yvonne Caunan said the department is working on a framework agreement for the deployment of more workers in Canada.

«Looking forward na sana mapirmahan na next year ‘yung framework para sa recruitment ng ating workers pero ang good news diyan ay hindi lang healthcare workers ang kanilang kinukuha meron na rin tayong framework for the recruitment of non-healthcare workers,» Caunan said.

The DMW official explained that a framework will speed up the recruitment process and the cost of employment will be clear in the terms of agreement.

«Usually, they are looking for welders, pipe fitters, then you also have work opportunities in the hospitality sector,” she added.

Caunan added that working in Canada will also mean an opportunity for Filipinos to bring their families there.

The DMW also sees opening of opportunities in Asia, particularly in Japan and South Korea.

»Marami na po kaming natatanggap na requests from delegations from Japan at nakikita po nila na ang Pilipino ay seryoso pagdating sa pagtatrabaho sa Japan," Caunan said.

Caunan said Japan is interested in hiring Filipinos in the sectors of agriculture, hospitality, and manufacturing, as well as care workers.

Talks are also underway for possible deployment of caregivers in South Korea.

The demand for Filipino workers remains high in Hong Kong and Taiwan, according to the DMW.

As of Oct. 30, the DMW said over 2,028,307 overseas Filipino workers have been deployed and the number is expected to surpass pre-pandemic
