Eighteen-day global campaign to end violence against women kicks off at DAR

QUEZON CITY—The 18-day global campaign to end violence against women (VAW) kicked off at the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Central Office in Quezon City on Tuesday, November 28, reaffirming DAR’s commitment to a violence-free, gender-fair society in compliance with Proclamation No. 1172 and Republic Act 10398.

During the flag-raising ceremony, the granddaughter of former President Elpidio Quirino and Mutya ng Pilipinas Director Socorro Alicia “Cory” Quirino delivered a speech on women empowerment. She underscored the importance of strength and courage in achieving genuine inclusivity for Filipino women, sharing stories and valuable insights during the event.

The department is set to facilitate a forum on VAW, with film screenings featuring empowering women centric movies, and a financial literacy seminar spearheaded by DAR Undersecretary Amihilda J. Sangcopan of the Office for Mindanao Affairs.

DAR’s Gender and Development (GAD) Center also launched its Women’s Desk, leading the formulation and execution of programs focused on protecting women’s rights. This initiative also serves as a platform for women to register complaints and grievances, especially those related to their workplace.

The 18-day campaign at DAR demonstrates the department’s firm dedication to fostering a violence-free and gender-fair society. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of safeguarding the human rights of women by upholding its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence as stated in the 1987 Constitution.
