Jordan Brand provides Ateneo scholarships

MANILA, Philippines – Six Filipinos will be receiving full-board scholarship grants at the Ateneo de Manila University through the scholarship program of the Jordan Brand. 

The six scholars are set to graduate in 2027. They are Maj Comedoy from Palo, Leyte; Jeff Dagaray from Culiat, Quezon City; Andrew Dumangas from Antipolo, Rizal; Princess Giron from Baliwag, Bulacan; Dave Predigua from Makati City; and Rae Tolentino from Cebu City.

Comedoy will be pursuing a course in Diplomacy and International Relations. Daragay will take a course in Materials Science and Engineering, while Dumangas will be taking Biology.

Giron will be majoring in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science – Digital Game Design and Development. Predigua is planning to major in Computer Science as well, and Tolentino will be taking up Psychology. 

Dumangas, a sports enthusiast, and Tolentino, a football athlete, are eyeing to be doctors.

Comedoy aims to become a Philippine Ambassador to the United Nations General Assembly; Daragay wants to be a researcher in nuclear chemistry; Giron wants to contribute her expertise as a programmer or computer scientist; and Predigua wants to develop software applications that can help other people, especially the disabled, within the community. 

The scholars were unveiled during the halftime break of the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ UAAP Season 86 game against the UE Red Warriors on Wednesday. 

“Wings exists to empower youth and help them unlock the greatness within themselves. Through the power of education, everyone can fly,” Jino Ferrer, country marketing manager of Nike Philippines, said in a statement. 

“The spirit of excellence inspired by the Jordan Wings Scholarship Program continues with the Batch of 2027 who want to excel at life through education and also pay it forward by making a difference to the community — a value that closely matches Jordan Brand’s purpose,” Ferrer added. 

This is already the second batch of Jordan Brand’s Wings scholars in the country. 

Last year, the Philippines became the first country in Southeast Asia to join the global Wings initiative, which was made in partnership with children’s rights organization, Bahay Tuluyan.
