Korean league campaigner MJ Phillips back with Petro Gazz in PVL

MANILA, Philippines – After a stint in the Korean Volleyball League, MJ Phillips is returning to the Petro Gazz Angels.

Phillips, who was the sole Filipina drafted in the league’s Asian Quota Draft, will return to Petro Gazz just in time for the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference starting later this month.

“MJ is coming home! The two-time PVL Best Middle Blocker is back to refuel the Angels,” the team said in a Facebook post.

The 28-year-old middle blocker played for the Gwangju AI Peppers in Korea in July last year.

She will be rejoining a team that just won the PNVF Champions League a few days before.

The Angels are heading into the new PVL season with a revamped roster, led by new acquisitions Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo and Mich Morente.

However, the team lost Grethcel Soltones and Heather Guino-o in the offseason.

Petro Gazz finished sixth in the previous All-Filipino Conference with a 6-5 win-loss record.

The team also tapped a new coach in Japanese Koji Tsuzurabara last month.
