Lady Bulldogs trounce Lady Tamaraws for 4th straight win

MANILA, Philippines -- The National University Lady Bulldogs recovered from a dismal second set and grabbed their fourth straight win in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball torunament against the gritty FEU Lady Tamaraws, 25-17, 13-25, 25-17, 25-20 Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The high-scoring trio of Alyssa Solomon, Bella Belen and Vange Alinsug led the Lady Bulldogs, combining for 60 points.

Solomon had 25 big points, while Belen and Alinsug had 19 and 16 markers, respectively.

After the 25-13 second set, NU regained its form and dominated the third set, 25-17.

In the fourth set, the Lady Bulldogs turned a 12-9 lead to an eight-point advantage, 18-10, with a service ace by Alinsug.

FEU then stormed back, cutting the lead to four, 17-21, with an attack by Gerzel Petallo that went off the block.

Solomon then answered to cut the run, 22-17.

The two teams traded points, before Solomon took matters into her own hands, pushing the Lady Bulldogs to match point, 24-18.

After back-to-back errors by NU to save FEU match points, Alinsug ended the match with a kill, 25-20.

Petallo led the Lady Tamaraws with 17 points and Jean Asis added 11.

NU rose to 4-1 in the season, while FEU dropped to 2-3.
