Lancers, Jaguars fight for solo lead in CESAFI | The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars will figure in an exciting battle of undefeated teams in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 23 Men’s Basketball Tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

At stake in their 3:30 p.m. duel is the solo leadership in the college division.

The Jaguars are currently on top of the totem pole with an perfect 4-0 record but the Lancers are breathing down their neck with an immaculate 3-0 slate in a tie with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers.

The Lancers breezed through their third straight win with an 84-57 shellacking of the Felipe R. Verallo Foundation College (FRVFC) Blue Dragons on Thursday night.

On the other hand, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will try to stretch their hot streak to three games as they tackle the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs in the main game at 5 p.m.

The Webmasters are currently at fourth place in the leaderboard with a 2-0 mark while the Mustangs hope to snap a two-game slide they suffered after hurdling their league debut against FRV Foundation College last September 30.

In the 12:30 p.m. opener, sister teams UC Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) and the UC Baby Webmasters will take on each other in another clash of unbeatens under the juniors level.

UCLM leads the pack with an unblemished 4-0 card while the Baby Webmasters are unscathed in three starts.

In the other match set at 2 p.m., reigning titleholders Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles hope to improve their 2-1 record as they collide against the USPF Baby Panthers.
