LPA enters PAR, develops into tropical depression

THE low pressure area (LPA) east of Central Luzon has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), and has developed into a tropical depression named «Jenny,» the weather agency said, Friday.

As of 4 p.m., the center of tropical depression Jenny was estimated at 1,400 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it is currently moving westward at 20 kph.

«Tropical depression Jenny is not directly affecting the country. However, considering the proximity of the tropical cyclone to land from the forecast track, this may result in heavy rainfall over Batanes and Babuyan Islands in the next five days», Pagasa said.

Jenny is forecast to track generally westward or west-northwestward until Saturday before turning further north over the Philippine Sea east of Northern and Central Luzon.

The southwest monsoon may also be enhanced by this tropical depression by Sunday, resulting in possible occasional rains over the western portions of Central and Southern Luzon.
