Magnitude 5.0 earthquake rocks Eastern Samar
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Eastern Samar Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremor occurred at 1:53 p.m. 31 kilometers southeast of Balingaga.
Tectonic in origin, it had a depth of 10 kilometers, Phivolcs said.
The agency said Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in Hinundayan and Hinunangan, Southern Leyte and Dulag and Abuyog, Leyte.
While damage to infrastructure is unlikely, Phivolcs said aftershocks are possible.
