Mandaluyong doubles de-clogging ops
THE Mandaluyong government has doubled down on its cleaning and de-clogging operations as well as its “Palit Basura Para sa Pagkain sa Mesa” program, particularly in flood-prone areas in the city.
The clean-up drive is being conducted by city officials led by Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos in partnership with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) following the damage caused by typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon.
The “Palit Basura Para Sa Pagkain Sa Mesa” program, launched in 2021, allows residents to exchange their recyclable trash for groceries.
The project aims to provide Mandaluyong residents with food packs in exchange for recyclable materials such as plastic bags, plastic bottles, and other plastic wastes.
The collected trash will be converted into chairs, tables, and eco-bricks.
Residents can trade in a minimum of five kilos and a maximum of 10 kilos of trash per person. They will be given a stub that they can use for grocery items such as rice, vegetables, and noodle packs.
