One-two showing for Team Philippines in muay thai
MANILA, Philippines — Rhichien Yosorez and Alyssa Mallari struck gold in muay thai over the weekend for the Philippines’ second mint in the World Combat Games at the King Saud University Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The impressive Yosorez and Mallari garnered a score of 9.20 in edging countrymen Philip Delarmino and Ariel Lampacan for the gold in the mixed Mai Muay event.
Delarmino, a former world champion, and Lampacan took the silver with a 9.03 score while Malaysians D. Daniel and M. Binti Roslan snatched the bronze with 8.83.
It was the second golden effort for the Philippines after jiu-jitsu’s Kaila Napolis delivered the first one Wednesday.
Also snaring a medal in muay thai was Islay Erika Bomogao, who had a silver in women’s wai kru.
Team Phl now has four silvers after Agatha Wong and Clemente Tabugara Jr. copped the first two apart from the two bronzes the country bagged courtesy of Jones Llabres and Thornton Sayan in wushu.
