Pañares relishes ninth place finish in WAGC World Finals | The Freeman
CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano lawyer and sportsman Marven Pañares had a great experience competing in the 2023 World Amateur Golfers Championships (WAGC) World Finals 2023 recently.
But what made his stint in the week-long tilt held last November 4-11 in Phuket, Thailand extra special is that he made it to the top 10.
Pañares earned the right to don the country's tri-colors in the World Finals after reigning supreme in the WAGC National Finals at the Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa City, Batangas last September.
The deputy commissioner of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) did not disappoint on the global stage.
Pañares placed ninth overall in a strong field of competitors under Division E.
"Ranked No. 9 of the recently concluded World Amateur Golfers Championship 2023 in Phuket, Thailand was a tough one," Pañares wrote on his Facebook page.
"Playing in that championship division against other golfers from all over the world in four unfamiliar and very difficult courses, a very tiring tournament for having a six straight days of play (two days practice round and four days tournament proper) in a literally very hot weather condition and most of all, playing against the big guns from other countries."
"Nonetheless, such a wonderful experience, definitely one for the memory books. 'Til next year WAGC if be given a chance again to represent Philippines. Fore!," Pañares ended. — (FREEMAN)
