Parañaque kicks off 2024 tax campaign

MANILA, Philippines — To remind taxpayers about this year’s real property tax (RPT) discount offers, the Parañaque City government said yesterday it would distribute leaflets to homes and businesses starting this week.

Mayor Eric Olivarez said the back-to-back full-color leaflet contains information on the 2024 quarterly RPT payments and the 10 percent discount and no interest perks if tax obligations are paid early this month.

Olivarez said the other side of the leaflet shows the daily schedule of 2024 business permit renewal from January to the last week of February. The renewal schedule is based on the last digit of the business identification number.

Olivarez also said that the city treasurer’s office is offering tax discounts up to 10 percent to local taxpayers who pay their RPTs for 2024.

He said the city government would grant a no interest perk to taxpayers if quarterly payments are made on or before March 31 for the first quarter, on or before June 30 for the second quarter, on or before Sept. 30 for the third quarter and on or before Dec. 31 for the last quarter.

A 10 percent discount will be given to those who will pay their quarterly RPT from Jan. 1 to 20 for the first quarter, from April 1 to 20 for the second quarter, on or before July 20 for the third quarter and from Oct. 1 to 20 for the fourth quarter.

Olivarez said residents are assured that their taxes would be used “to further strengthen and expand our delivery of social and health services, build more infrastructure and implement lined-up plans and programs of my administration this year.”

The mayor advised taxpayers to take advantage of the tax discounts. He added that only accounts without delinquencies will qualify for the discounts.

The city government is also offering a 20 percent discount to real property owners who want to pay in advance on or before Dec. 15 their RPT for 2025.

However, Olivarez explained that late settlements of tax dues shall subject taxpayers to an interest rate of two percent per month on the unpaid amount or a fraction thereof to a maximum of 72 percent or 36 months until delinquencies have been paid in full.
