PBA gets green light from board to unveil no height limit in Commissioner's Cup next season


MANILA, Philippines — The PBA is looking at coming up with a robust look by Season 49 as the three-conference format is set to make its comeback, but this time, kicking off with the Governors' Cup.

Speaking to media men prior to the start of Game 1 of the PBA Philippine Cup title series at the media room at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, league commissioner Willy Marcial bared that the Governors' Cup will feature imports with a height limit of 6-foot-6.

TNT will be defending its title in this import-spiced conference which the team won last year under interim coach Jojo Lastimosa. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who won the Best Import plum, led the squad to the championship after beating Barangay Ginebra in six games in the Finals.

The second conference will feature the Commissioner's Cup, which San Miguel won in the ongoing Season 48 by San Miguel Beer.

Marcial said based on the league board's decision, the Commissioner's Cup allows imports with no height restrictions.

At the same time, the PBA chieftain shared the the league is still in talks with a foreign ball club, and should this push through, the board is open at bringing two reinforcements for each PBA team.

«The board has approved of my proposal to have an unlimited height for imports in the Commissioner's Cup. This will allow us to play the All-Filipino conference in time when the league celebrates its (50th) anniversary on April,» he said.
