PPA marks 50th anniversary with new projects

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) will inaugurate a new cruise terminal in Siargao within the year and launch new projects as part of the celebration of its 50th anniversary in July.

PPA will mark a significant enhancement in the country's cruise tourism infrastructure, aligned with the government's goal to enhance tourism and increase the number of visitors. PPA General Manager Jay Santiago announced this milestone, underscoring PPA's commitment to boosting tourism.

Currently, PPA ports accommodating cruise ships include Currimao in Ilocos Norte, Salomague in Ilocos Sur, Manila, Bohol, and El Nido in Palawan. The Siargao terminal, expected to be operational by the third quarter, is part of a broader initiative to develop terminals near key tourist sites.

«We are constructing dedicated cruise terminals in Siargao and Coron, Palawan. We aim to complete the Coron terminal by next year and start on Camiguin,» Santiago said.

The new terminals will boost local economies by facilitating more international and domestic tourists. These strategically located terminals will improve access to top tourist spots, encouraging longer stay and higher spending. Plans also include new terminals in Boracay and Puerto Galera. These additions are expected to streamline visitor flow and enhance tourism infrastructure.

PPA's expansion reflects a forward-thinking approach to tourism development, aiming to position the Philippines as a premier cruise destination in Asia and increase its global tourism competitiveness.
