'PH can become travel, aviation hub'

THE Philippines has the potential to become the travel and commercial trading hub in the Asia-Pacific region given enough investments, a Department of Transportation official said.

«We invite the world and the private sector to invest in the Philippine aviation sector because that's the way to most effectively create infrastructure that will create connectivity among the islands to spur trade and commerce,» Transportation Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Roberto Lim said during a news conference for the upcoming Singapore Airshow at the Changi Exhibition Center in Singapore on February 20 to 25.

Lim cited the potential high return on investment in the Philippine aviation sector given the world-class technical and customer service skills of Filipinos, the country's strategic geographical location, and strong gross domestic product growth.

«The Philippines offers a unique geographic advantage that we must seize upon so that we can truly become one of the major regional hubs in Asia,» Lim said.
