PNP intensifies patrols, checkpoint ops nationwide

PNP CHIEF Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has ordered an intensified patrols, searches, and checkpoint operations throughout the country to prevent crime and enhance peace and order.

Marbil said 85 percent of police personnel should be actively involved in field duties, including foot and motorcycle patrols.

The PNP’s public information office said Marbil’s directive includes the intensification of foot and motorcycle patrols, “Oplan Galugad” (search and inspection operations) and “Oplan Sita” (checkpoint operations).

“We are committed to making our communities safer by ensuring a strong police presence in public spaces. This initiative is designed to not only prevent crime but also to build trust and rapport with the communities we serve,” said Marbil.

He issued the order on the instruction of Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr to ensure the safety of the public.

In a statement, the PNP said policemen will conduct intensified foot patrols in urban centers, residential areas, and other high-traffic locations “to maintain a visible presence and engage directly with community members.”

On motorcycle patrols, the PNP said, “Rapid-response motorcycle units will patrol key areas to ensure swift mobility and the ability to quickly respond to incidents and emergencies.”

It said the enhanced Oplan Galugad “will focus on thorough searches and inspections in designated areas, particularly those known for high crime rates, to disrupt and dismantle criminal activities.”

Oplan Sita operations “will involve systematic checkpoints and routine stops to check for legal compliance and prevent the movement of contraband and illegal items.”

Marbil urged policemen to display the highest standards of professionalism in the conduct of these operations.

“Our goal is to protect and serve the public with integrity and dedication. We must work hand in hand with our communities to create an environment where everyone feels safe and secure,” he said.
