PNP to improve police presence in Manila

THE city of Manila is a densely populated city where crimes cannot be avoided, the PNP yesterday said after the Forbes Advisor, a global platform that helps consumers make sound financial decisions, ranked it as the fifth riskiest city for tourists out of 60 international cities.

“Manila is really a densely populated area, we expect crimes to be recorded,” PNP spokeswoman Col. Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing at Camp Crame.

But Fajardo added: “What we are saying is that, if we cannot prevent the occurrence of crimes, we make sure that those involved (suspects) are arrested and these crimes are solved.”

Fajardo said the PNP will study the basis of the Forbes Advisor report and use this to enhance police operations in Manila City.

“This will serve as a guide on the part of the PNP to improve police presence, particularly in crime-prone areas and in tourist spots in Manila,” she said.

She added that the Manila Police District (MPD), under Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, has not reneged on its mission to maintain peace and order in the city.

In making the ranking, Forbes Advisor noted that Manila City has the highest natural disaster risk, fifth in personal security risk, and seventh highest health security risk.

Caracas in Venezuela was ranked as the riskiest city for tourists.

Karachi in Pakistan was ranked second, while Yangon in Myanmar and Lagos in Nigeria were ranked third and fourth, respectively.
