Preparation for internet voting intensified
THE Department of Foreign Affairs said preparations were in full swing in all its outposts around the world for the implementation of internet voting among overseas Filipinos in next year's national elections.
«DFA-OVS (Department of Foreign Affairs-Overseas Voting Secretariat) fully supports Comelec (Commission on Elections) with this additional new mode of voting that will not only encourage our countrymen abroad to exercise their right of suffrage but will also make the electoral process easier and more convenient for them. Information campaigns on internet voting will also play a vital role in the success of it. The Secretariat is committed and ready to assist Comelec through our Foreign Service Posts in this regard,» Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jesus Domingo said in a statement.
Seventy-six foreign service posts, including the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, will conduct internet voting during the 2025 national polls.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jesus DomingoDomingo added that foreign service personnel in Busan, South Korea, Barcelona, Spain, Hong Kong and Singapore have already undergone training in the conduct of internet voting.
Similar training was scheduled for outpost staff in San Francisco, USA (September 2024), Prague, Czech Republic, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (October 2024), Vancouver, Canada (November 2024), and Doha, Qatar (to be announced).
«If internet voting for overseas Filipinos proves to be successful, we can use it domestically for our senior citizens, persons with disability, and pregnant women,» Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said in a statement.
