Rains raise water level in Ipo Dam

MANILA, Philippines — Rains experienced in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, particularly in Bulacan, were not enough to improve the water level in Angat Dam, but increased the elevation in Ipo Dam.

In a radio interview, Environment Undersecretary Carlos David said afternoon rains were not enough to fill Angat Dam as water did not reach its watershed.

As of 8 a.m. yesterday, the water level in Angat Dam dropped to 181.59 meters compared to the previous day’s 181.85 meters. It was only 1.59 meters higher than the dam’s minimum operating level of 180 meters.

The water level in Ipo Dam, on the other hand, increased to 99.56 meters compared to its previous level of 99.54 meters.

Meanwhile, David said the one cubic meter per second decrease in water allocation for Metro Manila consumers, or from 50 cms to 49 cms, should not result in water interruption.

“It is not significant as in the last few months because we prepared our interventions,” he said.
