Re-elected kagawad shot dead
COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A re-elected barangay council member in Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao del Norte was killed in a gun attack on Monday.
Anwar Mamukan was driving his white multicab when unidentified motorcycle riders who tailed him opened fire along Narciso Ramos Highway, Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police director, said, citing a report from the Sultan Mastura police.
Mamukan won another term as village council member in Barangay Balut.
He died on the way to a hospital.
The relatives of the victim believe that the attack was related to the recently concluded barangay elections.
Mamukan defeated his fiercest and long time rivals, according to villagers.
On Nov. 1, newly elected council member Suharto Antillino of Barangay Poblacion 3 in Midsayap, Cotabato was gunned down.
Six days later, Edmar Pineda Perero, a new barangay council member in Barangay Dolores in Antipas, was shot dead while driving his tricycle on his way home from the municipal center.
Investigations into the killings are ongoing.
