Rediscovering Palawan via DoT's PEP

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY: The Department of Tourism (DoT) launched on Wednesday the 7th phase of its initiative in Palawan, known as the Philippine Experience Program (PEP).

Through the Tourism Department's flagship program, the PEP, foreign and domestic guests can fully immerse themselves in the rich cultural richness and history of the nation's provinces.

«Palawan is mostly known for its beaches, as most people are aware, but throughout these three days, guests will have a deeper understanding of the province,» DoT Mimaropa Regional Director Roberto Alabado told The Manila Times.

«We'll gain knowledge about the province's history, heritage and arts,» he added.

Over time, Palawan has gained popularity as a travel destination among both domestic and foreign travelers.

Palawan has routinely been on lists of the best islands in the world because of its pure waters, virgin forests, tropical paradise and wildlife sanctuary.

With its enormous natural riches, unparalleled beauty and diverse wildlife, Palawan is rich in history and culture.

Three separate Indigenous tribal groups, the Batak, Tagbanua and Palaw'an, reside in isolated communities in the mountainous and coastal regions of Northern and Southern Palawan.

The region is also home to about seven Indigenous ethno-linguistic cultural groups.

The first day of the Palawan Philippine Experience Program will cover Princesa Garden, Palawan Heritage Center, Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Plaza Cuartel, Iwahig Penal Farm and Mitra's Ranch.
