Remulla recovery ‘on the uptick’ – DOJ
JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla is in good health and recovering well after several months away from public view over a heart bypass surgery last year, the department’s spokesperson said yesterday.
Justice Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic Clavano provided the update after Remulla attended Wednesday’s signing in Malacañang of the 2024 National Prosecution Service Rules on Preliminary Investigations and Inquest Proceedings.
“His health is good. Recovery is on the uptick after his doctors asked him to go on a strict diet in order to lose weight,” Clavano said.
He also revealed that Remulla would attend today’s signing of a memorandum of agreement with representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
The agreement aims to strengthen procedures on the investigation of custodial deaths of inmates under the Bureau of Corrections.
In May this year, Clavano said Remulla was still recovering from his heart bypass operation but remained active in the department, giving guidance to his subordinates. This was in reply to reporters who asked him why Remulla has not appeared to media since March this year.
Remulla underwent a bypass procedure on June 27, 2023 after his physical examination the week before showed heart blockage. He was discharged from the hospital five days later.
Remulla earlier said that despite his health condition, the thought of resigning his post never crossed his mind.
