San Juan launches Single Ticketing System

(UPDATE) THE official pilot testing of the Single Ticketing System (STS) for traffic management in Metro Manila was launched in Juan City on Wednesday.

Metro Manila Council (MMC) President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, Land Transportation Office (LTO) Regional Director Noreen San Luis-Lutey, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Acting Chairman Romando «Don» Artes led the launching of the STS.

MMDA turned over 30 handheld devices to San Juan City.

These ticketing handheld devices will be used to issue violation tickets to erring drivers. These also allow drivers to pay their fines upfront using online payment channels and credit cards.

«I am happy that we are officially piloting the single ticketing system here in San Juan after the initial run. We were able to fix the glitches encountered, so the actual STS implementation will be seamless for enforcers and drivers,» Mayor Zamora said.

«Now, no license will be confiscated,» Zamora said. «All Metro Manila mayors have agreed that all the 20 common traffic violations will have the same amount of fine across all the LGUs in the National Capital Region.»

Zamora also assured the public that they are committed to complying with the national government's programs to enhance the lives of Filipinos.

Artes, on the other hand, said that the launching of STS marked the full implementation of the system.

«During our term as MMDA chairman and Mayor Zamora as the MMC president, the project has been finally executed,» Artes said.

Also present during the STS launch were the private sector partners of the initiative: LandBank DECS Department Manager Zenaida Rodenas, GCash AVP Head of Public Sector and Partnerships Cathlyn Tiu, Maya Key Accounts Specialist Norika Pineda, and RBS Software Solutions Managing Director Lemuel Aceron, as well as Vice Mayor Angelo Agcaoili and members of the city council.

Under the STS, the list of common traffic violations includes disregarding traffic signs, illegal parking, disregarding unified volume reduction program (number coding scheme), truck, light truck and tricycle bans; reckless driving; obstruction; overloading; loading and unloading in prohibited zones; illegal counterflow; and
