Senate building project review to stop ‘waste’ of funds – solons

ADMINISTRATION lawmakers yesterday assailed the escalating costs and potential waste of public funds because of the construction of the new Senate building in Taguig City.

In saying that he support the decision of Senate President Francis Escudero to suspend the project pending a comprehensive review of the project cost, Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez (PL, 1-Rider) said: “It is only prudent to scrutinize projects involving public funds. Gutierrez, in a joint statement, also said: “This project is a prime example of why stringent checks and balances are essential. The significant cost overrun calls for a reassessment to protect our nation’s fiscal health.”

Rep. Raul Angelo Bongalon (PL, Ako Bicol) stressed the need for transparency, saying, “it is crucial that we uphold public trust in all our infrastructure projects. Every centavo must be accounted for to prevent misuse of funds.”
