SMFI turns over 107th school building donation

SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI) inaugurated its 107th school building donation at the South Central Integrated School in San Fernando, La Union, on Jan. 4, 2024, a testament to its staunch advocacy in promoting quality education in the Philippines.

Overcrowding has long been a significant issue for the country's public education system. Classrooms that are overcrowded due to limited resources and a large student population are less conducive to effective learning and individualized attention. SM Foundation's School Building program addresses this by providing much-needed classrooms, particularly in low-income communities.

The two-story, four-classroom structure is a welcome addition to the community, alleviating the burden of classroom overcrowding and providing a conducive learning environment for 200 Grade 7 students.

The new school building at South Central Integrated School is more than just bricks and mortar. It symbolizes hope and opportunity for the students who learn within its walls.

The building is fully furnished with armchairs (including left-handed options), teacher desks and chairs, panoramic whiteboards, wall fans, and wall clocks. To ensure inclusivity, the structure includes a person with disability (PWD) ramp and a PWD-friendly comfort room with handrails and necessary amenities.

SM Foundation also prioritizes the safety and well-being of students and staff. The building has fire alarms and emergency lights in key areas, ensuring quick emergency response.

A 10-faucet handwashing facility and overhead water tank have been installed to promote a healthy learning environment. Dedicated rooms for a guidance office, art gallery and prayer room further enhance the school's functionality and cater to the diverse needs of the community.

The impact of the SM Foundation goes beyond building schools; it is felt in improved safety, supportive learning environments, and a wider dedication to educational empowerment.

As a result, by creating opportunities and buildings, the foundation serves as a beacon of hope, showing countless learners nationwide the way to a better, more inclusive future.
