Subic road rage driver suspended

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office has suspended the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) tagged in a road rage incident at the Subic Bay Freeport in Bataan, LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said yesterday.

“We have identified the driver of the sport utility vehicle. She was directed to submit a notarized copy of her explanation and appear in the investigation being conducted by the LTO-Central Luzon,” Mendoza said.

The LTO ordered an investigation into the incident after video footage showing the driver of a black Toyota Fortuner hitting a car driven by a senior citizen went viral on social media.

Mendoza said the LTO-Central Luzon has issued a show-cause order against the driver, who is a resident of Morong town.

“Pending results of the investigation, the license of the SUV driver is preventively suspended for 90 days effective upon the receipt of the show-cause order. The Toyota Fortuner with MV File No. Z7N88 will be put on the alarm list,” he said.

The Fortuner was found registered in the name of a female resident of Makati.

Both the registered owner and the driver were ordered to submit notarized explanations seven days after receiving the show-cause order.

The two women were directed to appear in the hearing at the LTO office in Central Luzon on March 1.
