Tech relieves heavy water strain in industrial operations

A CHEMICAL-FREE wastewater treatment innovation that effectively advances sustainable water management across various industries just might present a solution to the country's water crisis that deprives 11 million families of access to clean water. In meeting regulatory effluent standards and minimizing environmental impact, it helps reduce the strain on the limited water resources of industrial operations which consume large amounts of freshwater and generate massively polluted wastewater.

The technology, which is named Cyclean, will be brought to the grassroots level to impact local communities. It is the result of a partnership with Singaporean water technology company Hydroleap with Biocare Health Resources Inc. (BHRI), one of the leading in vitro diagnostics distributors in the Philippines. It is also a flagship product of Biocare's new environmental division Biocare Environmental Solutions.

Through the collaboration, Hydroleap will deploy advanced electrochemical solutions for sustainable and efficient wastewater treatments across the country. Its unique electrochemical techniques can reduce up to 95 percent pollutants present in industrial wastewater and lessen the water discharges by 80 percent in the cooling towers.

It aligns with environmental regulations under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Administrative Order of 2016-08, as it utilizes electrical energy to remove contaminants from water and wastewater.

Mohammad Sherafatmand, Hydroleap founder and chief executive officer, said they will «leverage globally leading industry best practices in water and wastewater treatments to help alleviate the water stress in the country.» Along with Biocare, they intend «to set new benchmarks in water conservation efforts in the Philippines.»

BHRI will extend Hydroleap's market to health care establishments including government hospitals, barangay clinics, mobile hospitals, retail firms, and food and beverage establishments
