TNT’s Pogoy sidelined due to heart condition

MANILA, Philippines – RR Pogoy is set to miss a few months of PBA action due to a heart issue.

According to TNT head coach Jojo Lastimosa, Pogoy was found to have myocarditis.

The Mayo Clinic says myocarditis is the “inflammation of the heart muscle,” and it can “reduce the heart’s ability to pump blood.”

Severe myocarditis, the Mayo Clinic added, “weakens the heart so that the rest of the body does not get enough blood.”

“Our doctor has confirmed through a series of tests that he has myocarditis. He will be out three to six months depending on how his body heals,” Lastimosa said in a message.

Pogoy played in the FIBA World Cup, where he averaged 16.1 minutes per game in five games for Gilas Pilipinas.

He normed 6.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game.

He was earlier tapped to play for Gilas in the Hangzhou Asian Games, but he was replaced by San Miguel Beermen gunner Marcio Lassiter due to a “serious health issue.”

“We are looking forward to Roger getting healthy in no time. We will do our best to hold the fort for him while he’s gone,” Lastimosa added.

The PBA will begin next month.
