Typhoon Jenny further intensifies while moving over Philippine Sea

TYPHOON Jenny has steadily intensified while moving northwest over the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.

Estimated some 485 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, «Jenny» is moving at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph, the (Pagasa) said in a press briefing past 5 p.m.

Signal No. 1 is up in Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, northern and eastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan, Santa Maria, San Pablo, Tumauini, Cabagan, Ilagan City, San Mariano, Santo Tomas, Dinapigue, Benito Soliven, Naguilian, Gamu, Quirino, Delfin Albano, Quezon and Mallig), Apayao, northern and central portion of Ilocos Norte (Carasi, Vintar, Burgos, Dumalneg, Bangui, Pagudpud, Adams, Nueva Era, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Laoag City, San Nicolas, Sarrat, Piddig, Dingras, Solsona and Marcos), northeastern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lacub and Malibcong) and the northern portion of Kalinga (Balbalan, Pinukpuk, Rizal and City of Tabuk).

The typhoon will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring occasional to monsoon rains in the western portions of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in the next three days.

Pagasa said the typhoon will likely make landfall in the southern portion of Taiwan on Thursday morning.
