UC Webmasters cruise to historic 7-O start | The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — So far, so good for the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters.

This time though, the Webmasters were pushed to the limit before escaping past the upset-seeking

University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 76-70, to remain unbeaten in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 23 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday, November 4, at the Cebu Coliseum.

Rey Sordilla topscored with 14 points while Zareygel Rosano and Roosevelt Jelianggao combined for 21 points as the Webmasters of coach Kenneth Kernn Sesante extended their record streak to 7-0, their best start ever in the league’s 23-year history.

The Webmasters lost a 10-point lead early in the second half, allowing the Warriors to forge a 43-43 deadlock late in the third period.

But the Webmasters quickly regained their offensive bearing and launched a 23-13 counter-attack to restore a double-digit edge, 66-56, early in the final canto.

The Warriors came threateningly close at 63-66 on a triple by James Gica but Rey Sordilla hit a booming 3-pointer before Rosano and  Jelianggao went 4-of-4 from the foul line in the closing seconds of the contest to bail the Webmasters out of danger.

Gica fired 22 points while Uriel Avila added 14 points but their efforts went for naught as the Warriors dropped to 3-3.

In the juniors level,  the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) Trailblazers may have had an awful 0-4 start but the runner-up last year reminded everyone that they’re definitely not a pushover team.

Fighting with great resolve, the red-hot Trailblazers pummeled the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 83-68, for their third consecutive victory.

The Trailblazers were on top by just five after the opening session, 23-18, but caught fire in the middle quarters to strech their lead to as many as 26 points, 73-47.

The Trailblazers sustained their momentum the rest of the way to seal the 25-point rout.

Anfernny Illustrisimo cashed in 18 points while June Brian Alipato and Ryko Batuigas tallied 15 and 12 markers, respectively, as the Trailblazers kept their steady climb in the upper half of the juniors division standings with an improved 3-4 win-loss
