'Vlogger' under probe for alleged human trafficking

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 3) — A supposed vlogger is under probe by immigration authorities after being linked to the illegal recruitment of two Filipino women to Sri Lanka.

In a statement, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Friday said that the two victims were intercepted by authorities last Nov. 2 while en route to Singapore.

One of the victims said that she was contacted by the vlogger, who was not identified by authorities, after she commented on the latter's video.

She added that she was referred by the vlogger to a Sri Lanka-based recruiter, the BI said.

The BI added that the victims were promised by the Sri Lankan recruiter to work as household workers or as call center agents.

But they were each charged by the recruiter more than ₱50,000 for a so-called recruitment package, the bureau said.

The BI said the case of the two Filipinas has been referred to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking for investigation and filling of charges against the vlogger and the recruiter.
