WeKenRun bets prove mettle in Osaka, Tokyo marathons

MANILA, Philippines – While many view the marathon as a single 46.2-kilometer race, at WeKenRun, the true marathon is the arduous training journey, culminating in race day as a grand celebration.

With the international marathon season in full swing, the running community buzzes with excitement for upcoming races and training activities. Leading the charge is local running coach Ken Mendola, whose group, WeKenRun, recently saw several members excel in both the Osaka Marathon (March 3) and the prestigious Tokyo Marathon (March 10).

Coach Ken's group has become known for its focus on individualized training plans that cater to each member's unique goals, skills and capabilities.

"A one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn't work," Coach Ken explained. "We focus on helping runners improve and minimize injury risk."

This personalized approach resonates deeply with the WeKenRunners, who value Coach Ken's genuine commitment to their individual journeys. Beyond the training, the group fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and support, further motivating members to achieve their goals.

The "secret formula" seems to be working. Five of Coach Ken's athletes achieved sub-4 hour times in the Osaka and Tokyo marathons, while others set personal bests. Team Captain Lorenzo "Enzo" Jabaguero, a marketing professional, clocked an impressive sub-elite 3:18 at the Tokyo Marathon, despite starting running only during the pandemic.

"It's about trusting the process," said Enzo. "Despite my busy schedule, I followed Coach Ken's plans diligently, and it paid off tremendously."

Another athlete, Sarah Delantar, achieved a personal best of 3:57 at the Osaka Marathon. She credits not only Coach Ken's guidance but also the unwavering support of her fellow WeKenRunners, especially during grueling long runs. "Having teammates by your side makes all the difference," shared Sarah, referring to their challenging training block that included running 32 kilometers three times at varying paces.

Tricie Gonzaga, a WeKenRunner who ran her first marathon in Osaka, echoes the sentiment: "It's been life-changing. I started with zero experience, and now I'm a marathoner! This wouldn't be possible without
