Angeles City's Miss Universe PH bet withdraws

MANILA, Philippines: Angeles City has announced the withdrawal of its representative to the Miss Universe Philippines competition.

In a statement released on Tuesday via the city's official Miss Universe Philippines page, it said that Joanne Thornley pulled out for health reasons.

«Joanne has faced health challenges which prevented her from attending earlier activities. Her health concerns required her to prioritize her well-being above all else,» the statement read.

The Miss Universe Philippines Angeles City extended its heartfelt appreciation to the Miss Universe Philippines Organization, as well as the sponsors, and all the creatives of the pageant.

«Your dedication to empowering women is truly commendable. Please continue to extend your support and encouragement to the remaining contestants as they embark on this remarkable journey,» it said.

«As for our Angeleños and supporters, we are incredibly grateful for all the love and encouragement we have received while Joanne represented our beloved Angeles City in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant. We will forever cherish this unwavering support in our hearts,» it added.

Angeles City has yet to name a new representative.

Another candidate announced her withdrawal from the competition last month.

Kananga's Natasha Jung pulled out from the pageant on Feb. 22 due to health concerns and was replaced by Phoebe Arrianna Veloso Torita.

Fifty-five competitors will vie for the crown in the Miss Universe Philippines 2024. Coronation night to be held on May 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Michelle Dee will crown her successor at the end of the event.

The winner will represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant to be held in Mexico.
