Workers entitled to holiday pay today

MANILA, Philippines — Workers would enjoy double pay if they opt to work today, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Labor Undersecretary Carmela Torres said June 17 has been declared a regular holiday and thus workers are entitled to additional pay.

“For work done during regular holiday, the employer shall pay a total of 200 percent of the employee’s wage for the day for the first eight hours of work,” Torres said in an advisory.

She further noted that work over eight hours shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate.

Workers who will be required to report on a regular holiday that falls on their rest day shall receive an additional 30 percent on top of the 200 percent basic wage.

She said employers shall pay an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for work over eight hours on a regular holiday that falls on the worker’s rest day.

Those who would choose not to report for work shall be paid 100 percent of their daily basic pay.

Malacañang previously declared June 17 as a regular holiday in observance of the Muslim feast of Eid’l Adha or Feast of the Sacrifice.
