Agriculture, Trade and Industry agencies monitor supply and prices of agri commodities in Pasig City

Teams from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) held a joint monitoring of the supply and prices of basic agricultural commodities at the Mutya ng Pasig City Mega Market on October 7, 2024.

In coordination with the Pasig City local government unit, DA-Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS) Director Junibert De Sagun led the monitoring team with representatives from the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), DA-Inspectorate and Enforcement, and DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB).

Based on the DA-AMAS Bantay Presyo Monitoring, below are the prevailing retail prices of selected agri-fishery commodities at the Pasig City Market on October 7:

• local well milled – P47.5/kilogram (kg),

• whole chicken (fully dressed) – P190/kg

• pork belly (liempo) – P360/kg

• pork ham (kasim) – P320/kg

• chicken egg (white, dedium) – P8.50/pc

• bangus (medium) – P140/kg

• sugar (refined) – P83/kg

Director De Sagun shared that the DA will intensify its regular price and supply monitoring at the Pasig City market and in major markets in Metro Manila to ensure the availability and affordability of agricultural commodities especially in time for the holiday season.

“Pabor sa amin itong monitoring para hindi mag-overprice ang vendors,” Mutya ng Pasig Mega Market Vendors Federation Inc. President Lucila Damasco said.

The team also noted the market vendors’ compliance to the proper display of commodity prices.

“Gusto naming ipakita dito sa Pasig na kaalyado kami ng (national) government. Susunod kami hindi lang for compliance. Manghuhuli po pag hindi nagdisplay ng signages,” Market Administrator Joseph Vincent Pastor Molina said.

In addition to the availability of affordable variety of agri products, Director De Sagun also commended the Pasig City Market for its cleanliness that could help ensure food safety. (Gumamela Celes Bejarin, DA-AFID)
