MANILA, Philippines -- San Sebastian College showed its intent in ending a 16-year NCAA junior basketball title drought as it smashed Lyceum of the Philippines University, 101-62, on Friday and seized a piece of the lead in Season 99 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

Ruvic Danag dropped an 18-point effort, including six points each and the second and third quarters when ther Junior Stags turned a two-point opening quarter deficit to an insurmountable 41-point lead.

It was SSC-R’s second win in a row after stunned San Beda, 83-79, in last Saturday’s opening-day shocker.

Most importantly, it positioned the Junior Stags at the helm where they have a chance to snare their first crown since claiming an amazing four-peat feat in 2008 and sixth overall.

Seizing a share of the lead with a pristine 2-0 card was University of Perpetual Help, which drew rode on Mark Gojo Cruz’s 26-point masterpiece in blasting Emilio Aguinaldo College, 93-85.

There was also shockwaves created by San Beda’s stunning 88-72 destruction of reigning titlist Letran.

It was the Cubs’ first win that helped soothe the pain of its stinging defeat to SSC-R.

The Squires dropped to 1-1.
