‘Kahit gatas walang nagbigay’: Sharon Cuneta hints at no child support from ex Gabby Concepcion for KC; clarifies parents’ financial help

MANILA, Philippines — “Megastar” Sharon Cuneta had all praises for fellow women, especially single moms, at InLife’s (Insular Life) recent Women’s Month special for the fifth anniversary of its “Sheroes” campaign in Peninsula Manila Hotel, Makati City.

Because women’s empowerment was the event’s theme, the actress-singer shared her journey as a single mom to her firstborn KC Concepcion when Sharon and first husband Gabby Concepcion parted ways.

“Of course, she was my everything and my world when she was growing up,” Sharon said of KC at a group interview last week following the program.

According to her, contrary to public perception that she had financial backing from her parents, the late Pasay City mayor Pablo Cuneta and wife Elaine Gamboa-Cuneta, she actually worked for KC single-handedly. Thus, in as much as Sharon wished she could be with KC more often to take care of her, she had to work for both of them.

“S’yempre, something had to give. In that sense, ako lang naman talaga ‘yung breadwinner,” Sharon claimed, “Wala namang tumutulong sa’kin. Kahit isang lata ng gatas, ako lang naman talaga, walang nagbibigay, except my mom and dad, but it would be gifts, not necessities, you know?”

She implied that although her parents wanted to support her, she insisted of going independent.

“Because the one thing I told my parents was is if I don’t leave your home now, the main home, because daddy wanted me to go back, I’ll never learn, so what will I teach your apo?” she recalled.

“I wanted KC to grow up knowing how to fend for herself, and she did that. So that at least, I’m proud of na sinunod n’ya.”
